Squadron Objectives

The Aims of the Air Training Corps are:

  • To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.

  • To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.

  • To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

  •

1188 Squadron's objective is to fulfil the aims of the ATC by providing training that is both rewarding and fun!  We do this by:

  • Following the ATC's aviation ground training syllabus which is supplemented by visits to operational RAF stations.  Cadets also get the opportunity to go flying and gliding.

  • Providing training in military and life skills.  We regularly hold events at Ministry of Defence training establishments and the ATC syllabus covers topics such as presentation skills which will be useful in any future career.

  • Having a busy adventure training programme.  Cadets can do things such as camping, hill walking, canoeing and rock climbing.

  • Providing leadership training and giving cadets the opportunity to practice these skills through the rank structure.

  • Having an active community service programme, participating in charity events and helping out at local events.
